More Ft. tryon pic (north)

The cliff face in the north of Ft. Tryon park looks great. Enter the park just south of the play ground at Riverside Dr. and B'Way (A-line, Dyckman St. Station). Follow the main path west and uphill (making a slight left not too far in). Just past a huge walkable slab lies a decent looking outcrop, 40ft high, right on the path. The landing has some dirt and the path, otherwise the area is clean, and seem to have low foot traffic. I would suggest top roping, personally. What's really nice is that it has slab sections, 2 large overhangs and a prow, so there's plenty of variation for a single site. Oh and beware the lamppost, lest it bite you in the ass!

i have been looking for rocks in the same places. i grew up in the heights but didn't start climbing until i was much older and away at college. now i live in riverdale and have been dying to climb the many, many rocks i see on a daily basis (just teasing me, asking to be climbed!). i spent 2 1/2 hours searching van cortland for rocks but to no avail. i am aware of some of the rock in fort tryon, but there seems to be more that people have been talking about on the internet (terrible directions, though). i'm so glad and very relieved to know that i am not alone in my uptown climbing pursuits. it seems that there hasn't been anything new on your blog in almost a year. hopefully, you'll be inspired again. thanks for the research and beta.

Hi Boulderer,

Moved to the Heights two years ago and am now living in Inwood, so as the weather gets warmer I can't wait to try out the rocks you've so kindly archived here. Do you know of anyone continuing your project or do you have any more information about specific routes and problems? Thanks for all your work!
